CERTIFICATES Part of a sustainable network
A series of internationally acknowledged certificates make the efforts and achievements of AustroCel Hallein in the field of sustainability clear to the outside world.
In this respect, the company is the partner of certification bodies, such as EMAS, B-Corp and EcoVadis. The residual sawmill wood which is used by AustroCel Hallein comes almost exclusively forests that are certified according to PEFC criteria, which ensures sustainably-managed forests.
EcoVadis focuses on the entire value chain and also keeps the impact of commercial activities on the environment, workplace and human rights as well as sustainable procurement in view. Approximately 75,000 companies worldwide are listed according to the strict EcoVadis criteria – including AustroCel Hallein since 2021.
Sustainability has recently become a top priority. We have taken this spirit of acting sustainably to heart, and we are developing key figures so that we can manage our operations better according to such criteria. We also calculate the CO2 footprint of our products.
Certified B Corporation
The seal of approval attests to a particular degree of commitment in the areas of sustainability; B-Corp stands for Benefit Corporation. The seal of approval redefines commercial success: It is necessary for business goals to be brought into balance with ecological responsibility and social commitment. We are proud that we have been rated very highly. With B-Corp certification, AustroCel Hallein is part of a network of approximately 4,000 companies worldwide which fulfil the highest standards of environmental and social sustainability.
EcoVadis
EcoVadis focuses on the entire value chain. It presents the impact of commercial activity on the environment, workplace and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement with an easy-to-read Corporate Social Responsibility rating. Worldwide, approximately 75,000 companies from 200 sectors are listed according to the strict EcoVadis criteria. And that includes us.
EMAS Prüfzeichen – Eco Management and Audit Scheme
EMAS (which stands for Eco Management and Audit Scheme), also known as Eco Audit, is a community system of environmental management and environmental auditing for companies that want to improve their environmental performance. To be awarded the test mark and therefore be considered a certified sustainable company, it is necessary for all the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council to be fulfilled.
PEFC
AustroCel has been PEFC certified since 2005. During the annual PEFC audit with an external auditor, it is checked as to whether all the requirements continue to be met. According to the PEFC standard, the majority of our wood requirement of approximately 900,000 solid cubic metres per year comes from Germany and Austria, with smaller quantities from Eastern Europe. More than 85 percent of the wood used for the production of pulp is certified according to the PEFC standard. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) is a certification system for sustainable forestry management. With certification standards and certification organisations in some 53 countries, it is the largest independent organisation worldwide for ensuring and continuously improving sustainable forestry management, and aims to guarantee ecological, social and economic standards.

TÜV AUSTRIA is an independent Austrian testing, inspection and certification company with more than 2,500 employees in 27 countries. The range of solutions offered by the independent TÜV AUSTRIA Group ranges from cyber security, IoT, robotics and OT security as well as elevator technology, pressure equipment, plant safety, materials testing and education and training, through to medical and electrical engineering, environmental protection, Industry 4.0, Production 4.0, carbon footprint assessments, and personal, system and product certification.
