As “Modo Papier Hallein”, the company developed into one of the largest industrial operations in the country before being acquired by the Finnish group Metsä-Serla in 2000, and in 2011, the name was changed to M-real Hallein AG. Due to market consolidations in the graphic paper area, in 2009, M-real stopped paper production in Hallein and continued to produce just market pulp for other paper factories.
