New electronic safety control system
Despite numerous measures and investments in the areas of safety and the environment, accidents can never be completely prevented. The accident in June 2021, which resulted in the death of an employee, overshadows the fact that there was no reportable accident in 2020.
With the integration of TÜV Austria and other external experts, after the accident in June 2021, AustroCel arranged for a comprehensive safety analysis of the entire plant to be carried out. Based on the recommendations from the experts, organisational and technical measures to improve safety were immediately initiated. During the course of the extensive work, the pipelines, which have a total length of three kilometres, were subjected to technical inspections and maintenance. AustroCel also had repairs carried out, replaced plant components and installed an additional electronic safety control system.
At an industrial company with such a wide range of production processes, it is necessary to focus very strongly on preventing occupational accidents. For this reason, all employees – from the apprentices to the managers – complete the “Safe and Effective Production” training programme. This training makes people aware of their own responsibility and raises their awareness to the fact that their everyday actions – such as putting away tools or equipment which isn’t currently needed – can either prevent or encourage accidents.
